In memory of Major John Alexander Harrison, US Army, Ret., age 61, who passed with his loving family by his side on April 13th, 2017 in Annapolis, MD.

John was born on February 6th, 1956 in Medford, Massachusetts. A natural athlete, John excelled in a number of sports. He was accepted to West Point, where his athleticism led to a distinguished ice hockey career. Not only is he in the top 10 all-time scorers in Army’s history, John also holds the unique honor of having been Army’s most penalized player in a single season. He was an Airborne Ranger, an Army Aviator, and a man of unparalleled integrity.

John was a man who lived life on his own terms, enjoyed a rare steak, lived and breathed for the Boston Red Sox, and refused to listen to anything other than Classic Rock. He was the most aggressive Jeopardy watcher that ever existed. He was a true man’s man with the biggest heart and gentlest soul, and was a friend to anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. He was a loving family man, who devoted his life to his three girls. Handsome, witty, smart, and kind, John was the man everyone depended upon – he was an exceptional human being.

John was preceded in death by his mother, Audrey Harrison, and survived by his wife Kathleen, his daughters Erin and Paige, his father Edward Harrison, his siblings Ed Harrison and wife Dolly, MaryJane Langone and husband Joseph, Beth Hoehn and husband Rich and several nieces and nephews. He was loved by all, and made an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Family and friends will gather for John’s Visitation on Thursday, April 27th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA. John’s Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 28th at 10:00 a.m. in the Wilmington Congregational Church, 220 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, MA. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. A celebration of life for John will also be held in the DC/Metro area in May.

In lieu of flowers, we are kindly requesting a donation be made to Army Hockey Athletics in John’s memory. A GoFund Me page has been set up as details surrounding the exact charity are finalized in his honor.
