Carl L. Kennedy

Carl L. Kennedy, age 62, of Billerica, formerly of Saugus, died October 29, 2016, at home in the care of his son, Steven.

Carl was born February 27, 1954, in Lynn, MA, to Eileen and Robert Kennedy. Carl retired from General Electric in Lynn, MA, after a 43-year career. Carl’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his sons, enjoying fishing, watching sports, and vacations in Island Pond, VT.

Carl is survived by his sons, Robert and Katelyn (Thayer), of Dracut, MA, and Steven of Billerica, MA. His brother Paul and Ellen of Salem, MA, sister Elaine Butters of Tewksbury, MA and Gale Stearns, of Milford, NH. He is predeceased by his mother, father and brothers, Mark and Jim.

Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Service at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Thursday, November 3rd at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree, MA. Visiting hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 2nd from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.

John E. Gill

John Edward Gill, age 36, of Manchester, NH, formerly of Tewksbury, passed away unexpectedly on October 31, 2016.

John was born on May 18, 1980 in Houston, TX; he is the cherished son of Nancy A. (Hamilton) Gill of Derry, NH and the late John J. “Jack” Gill. John grew up in Everett and moved to Tewksbury as a teenager; he attended Shawsheen Valley Tech High School in Billerica.

While at the Tech, John was a member of the “Machine Shop;” John made some of his best memories in high school along with friendships that lasted throughout his life. John graduated Shawsheen Tech with the Class of 1998.

John worked as a dispatcher for Truck Temp Delivery Systems in Woburn.

In his spare time, John enjoyed traveling and going on road trips with his friends; some of his favorite trips were hiking or camping adventures. John also went to many sporting events and concerts; he had a love of music and followed many local bands.

John will be remembered for his giving personality, he was very kind, caring, and sensitive towards others. John would give you the shirt off his back; he would do anything for his family and friends especially his parents Jack and Nancy, his sister Jillian and his godchildren Bailey and Cameron with whom he shared a special bond. John was a truly amazing guy and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

John is the cherished son of Nancy and the late Jack Gill of Derry, NH, formerly of Tewksbury, dear brother of Jillian Gill and her fiancé Dave Sousa of Nashua, NH, special Godfather and Uncle of Bailey and Cameron, loving grandson of Dorothy Hamilton of Chelsea and Edward Gill of No. Weymouth. John is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.

Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Service at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte 62), Wilmington on Sunday, November 13th at 1:00 p.m.

Barbara A. Mucci-Reardon

Barbara A. Mucci-Reardon (Wheeler), age 77, formerly of Wilmington, MA, left this temporary home to be with the Lord in her eternal home in Heaven on October 25, 2016.

Barbara was born in Melrose, MA on July 26, 1939; she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Elsie (Lord) Wheeler.
Barbara was raised and educated in Reading, MA; graduating from Reading High School with the Class of 1957. She went on to continue her education at Lowell Academy Hairdressing School.

Barbara was known to be a “care giver” to everyone she met; Barbara took classes to become a CNA and graduated top of her class. Barbara worked in several nursing homes throughout the years but she mostly did private in home care; her kindness and compassion towards the elderly always made them feel loved.

Barbara also had a love for taking care of children; her home had an “open door” policy and everyone was made to feel welcomed. Barbara’s house was the local “hot spot” for her kids friends where they could hang out, work on cars, and have countless pajama parties over the years.

As an active member of the North Reading Baptist Church for many years Barbara always wanted to do the Lord’s work. Barbara was woman of great faith and a true Christian who’s love for the Lord helped her through many trying times in her life and helped her to find peace.

Barbara was the wife of the late John Mucci, and is survived by her children Cynthia Twombly & husband Brian of Billerica and John Mucci & wife Michelle of Woburn, her grandchildren Courtney Meaney & husband Michael, Kevin Twombly, Matthew Twombly, Emily Mucci, and Great-granddaughter Alison Meaney. She was the sister of Bruce Wheeler, Clyde “Buddy”Wheeler both of Lawrence, Judi Bowen of Tewksbury, Lynette Wheeler of Freemont, NH and Bobby Wheeler of South Boston. Barbara is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Kenneth M. Budd

Kenneth M. Budd, age 74, of Conway, NH and Nokomis, FL, formerly of Wilmington, MA, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on November 10, 2016, at Genesis Healthcare in North Conway, NH.

Ken was born in Cambridge, MA on December 27, 1941; he was the dear son of the late Malcolm and Aline Budd. Ken lived in Waltham for a few years before moving to Wilmington when he was six years old. Ken was raised and educated in Wilmington and a graduate of Wilmington High School with the Class of 1959.

Ken worked as a Mechanical Draftsman for Raytheon for many years before retiring in 1999. Ken was a very conscientious employee and always wanted to do his best, throughout his career Ken attended classes at Lowell Tech to improve his skills. Ken’s strong work ethic and endearing personality made Ken a favorite amongst his co-workers.

Ken loved being outdoors, he enjoyed fishing, boating, and going to the beach in the summer months and was quite a skier during the winter. Ken was also an avid gardener and enjoyed working around the house.

Following retirement, Ken and his wife Ann became “snowbirds” spending their winters in Nokomis, Florida and their summers in Conway, New Hampshire. Ken and Ann loved to travel and made many friends wherever they went.

Ken was a wonderful family man; his family was always his number one priority and there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for them. Ken always beamed with pride when he spoke of his children and grandchildren and he cherished all of the time they spent together. Ken will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandpa, son, brother, uncle, and friend.

Ken was the beloved husband of Annmarie (Shreenan) Budd, devoted father of Sonya Ross & husband Frankie of Methuen, Pamela Gondola & husband John of Tewksbury, Angelina McGlashan & husband Jon of Windham, NH, Debra Carriere & husband Anthony, Donna Connolly & husband Dennis all of Wilmington and the late David Stomboli. Loving “Grandpa” of Carly & Will Ross, Lucas & Cameron Gondola, Justin, Vanessa & Shane McGlashan, Noah, Nathan, & Isabel Carriere, Ella & Grace Connolly. Cherished son of the late Malcolm and Aline (Dufresne) Budd, dear brother of Paul Budd of Conway, NH and Nancy Kelley & husband Arthur of Wilmington. Ken was also husband of the late Maryann (Soroka) Budd and he is survived by many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mary “Sue” Schiavone

Mary S. Schiavone, “Sue” (Franchitto), age 94, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2016.

Sue was born in Brighton, MA on August 16, 1922. Sue was raised and educated in Brighton and graduated from Brighton High School.

Sue married Gaetano Schiavone on August 16, 1942. They moved to Wilmington in the 1960’s where they raised their beautiful family. She was a wonderful and devoted mother to Carole, Carl, Guy, and Valerie. Sue was very proud of her children and of all of their accomplishments throughout the years.

Sue also had a beautiful home of which she was very proud. She had a green thumb when it came to indoor plants and gardening outdoors. Every spring, she worked tirelessly in her yard, which was always beautiful and colorful, as she lovingly decorated the yard with a new crop of pansies, cosmos, and tulips in her garden. She loved her roses and tended to them with care.

Sue very much enjoyed creating with her hands. As a seamstress, her talents were endless. She made clothes for both herself and her children. She could sew, knit, or crochet almost anything for her family and friends. Her three-season porch was her pride and joy. She painted all the furniture as well as the floor, and spent the spring, summer, and fall months relaxing there with her plants.

Sue appreciated Classical Music, especially opera. Each Saturday afternoon she tuned into the local station which broadcast her beloved opera. She had a passion for reading, which she shared with and instilled into her children. She loved the classics, and her favorites were Gone With The Wind and Anne of Green Gables.

Sue watched classic movies with her family and treasured the time they spent together.

Sue will be fondly remembered as a hard worker. At age 58, when she and her husband divorced, she had to find work outside the home for the first time in her adult life. She took a job as a chambermaid at Howard Johnsons Motor Lodge in Woburn. She was a valued employee who excelled and took pride in her job. During her tenure there, she was recognized with an excellence in service award. This job she held until she retired at age 70.

At the end of 2014, she moved to the Tidd Home in Woburn. Here, she was able to relax and was well cared for by the Tidd Home staff. Sue enjoyed exploring the historic home, visiting with fellow residents and entertaining the staff with her dry sense of humor.

Sue was a sweet, friendly, quiet, hard-working woman; every adversity or challenge was met with tenacity.

Sue loved her family and friends unconditionally and with all her

heart. She inspired her children and she will be greatly missed by neighbors, friends, and her children, all who cherish her in return.

Sue is the devoted mother of Guy Schiavone of Franklin, NH, Valerie Schiavone of North Reading, the late Carole Bernstein and the late Carl Schiavone. Sue was the dear daughter of the late Nicholas and Felicia (Volando) Franchitto, dear sister of Esther & the late Rocky Franchitto of Arlington and the late Larry & Lillian Franchitto. Several nieces and nephews also survive Sue.

Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Service at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA on Tuesday, November 15th at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Charles A. Ganno

Charles Anthony Ganno, “Charlie”, age 72, of Wilmington, died peacefully on November 12, 2016.

Charlie was born in Boston, MA on July 27, 1944; he was the son of the late Charles and Antoinette Ganno. Charlie was raised and educated in Medford, MA and was a graduate of Medford High School.

Charlie married his “sweetheart” Marie Sutera in April of 1967; celebrating nearly 50 years of marriage together. The couple lived in Malden for a few years before moving to Wilmington in 1971 where they raised two wonderful daughters Charlene and Dawn. Charlie was very devoted to his family; he enjoyed every moment they spent together whether it was a family birthday, holiday, or special celebration; he just loved being with them. Everyone knew that Charlie loved his girls but when the grandchildren came along they were the “light of his life”. Charlie cherished being “Puppy” to Kayla, David, Anthony and Dominic; he was always so proud of them.

Charlie was also a hard worker; for many years, he was a heavy equipment operator for the Town of Wilmington.

Charlie will be fondly remembered as a nice guy who was friendly to everyone he met. Charlie loved his family and friends unconditionally and he will forever be missed.

Charles was the beloved husband of Marie (Sutera) Ganno, devoted father of Charlene M. (Ganno) Thompson & husband David of Hubbardston and Dawn M. (Ganno) Naimo & husband Michael of Wilmington, Loving “Puppy” of Kayla & David Thompson, Jr. and Anthony & Dominic Naimo. Cherished son of the late Charles and Antoinette (Mungelli) Ganno, dear brother of Annmarie McGrane of Peabody, the late Charles Cecere and Constance Newell. Charles is also survived by many brothers and sister-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Friday, November 18th for Visitation from 10:00-11:45 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Dorothy’s Church, Main St. (Rte. 38), Wilmington at 12:00 noon. Edward R. Lord, Jr., age 73, of Wilmington, died peacefully on November 16, 2016.

Ed was the beloved father of Mary Elisabeth Lord, Rachel E. LePore & husband Chris, and Donald G. Lord all of Wilmington, Rebecca J. Belland & husband Nicholas of Princeton, Edward R. Lord III of Billerica, Sarah J. Simonton & husband Douglas of Fremont, NH, and David A. Forester of Wilmington, grandfather of Hailey, Gabriel, Raymond, and Douglas. Dear son of the late Edward R. and Hannah (Sparks) Lord, brother of Shirley Arsenault of Middleton, Muriel Belbin of Florida, Donald Lord of Wilmington, the late Barbara Farrell and Ellen Gunkel. Ed is also survived by his companion Sahirah Abdur, many nieces, nephews, and his former wife Dolores Lord of Wilmington.

Ed was a U. S. Navy Veteran during the Cold War participating in the blockade during the Cuban Missile crises and a retired member of the Iron Workers Union Local #7 in Boston.

Ellen (Amari) Tamilio

Ellen (Amari) Tamilio, age 77, of Stoneham, formerly a long-time resident of Woburn, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on November 23, 2016. 

Ellen was the beloved wife of Frank J. Tamilio, Jr., devoted mother of Frank J. Tamilio III of Chelmsford, Judy Mabardy & husband Emile and Mark Tamilio & wife Julie all of Woburn, Rachel Tamilio of Wakefield, Timothy Tamilio & wife Jennifer of Virginia.  Loving “Grandma” of Gianna and Isaiah. Cherished daughter of the late Joseph and Angelina (Gaudioso) Amari, dear sister of Anna Brazee of Billerica, John Amari of No. Carolina, the late Marie Donato, Jennie Gianotti, Josephine Foskitt, and Russ Amari.  Ellen is also survived by a large and loving extended family of brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather for Visiting Hours at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Monday, November 28th from 4-8 p.m.  Ellen’s Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, November 29th at 10:00 a.m. in the Wilmington Congregational Church, 220 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington.  Interment will follow in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

Joseph “Sonny” Robarge

Joseph R. Robarge fondly known as “Sonny” to his family and friends, of Wilmington, died at home surrounded by his loving family on November 25, 2016; he was 80 years old.

Sonny was born in Lowell, MA on February 9, 1936; he was the dear son of the late Albert and Gertrude Robarge.  Sonny was raised and educated in Lowell and following High School he served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. 

In February of 1959, Sonny married the love of his life, Patty Cushing; the couple raised a wonderful family and made countless memories together during their 57 years of marriage.  They started their married life in Lowell but moved to Wilmington within 2 years to raise their family of five boys.   

Sonny was a very hard working man who often had more than one job, but he and Pat always found time to take their family camping and fishing. They spent many weekends at the Cushing family cottage on Beaver Lake in Derry, NH and have great memories of those times spent with extended family.  

True Wilmington townies, Pat and Sonny had a special spot on the Town Common under “their” tree where they enjoyed all the festivities of the Fun on the Fourth celebrations from the very first year it started.  They could also be found there enjoying the weekly Summer Concert Series. 

Pat and Sonny took advantage of the many activities offered by the Wilmington Recreation Department.  Some of his favorites were the trips to Branson, Missouri and the many shows and plays they saw.  As active members of the Wilmington Senior Center, Pat and Sonny enjoyed socializing with their friends. 

Sonny was very proud of his status as a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and was especially proud when all five of his sons joined the order as well. 

A member of the Andover Sportsman Club for many years, Sonny passed along his love of hunting, fishing, and camping to his sons and grandchildren. Sonny was well-known for his horseshoe throwing skills and love for the game, which his sons and grandsons also inherited. He also loved to watch professional sports but nothing could compare to watching his sons and grandchildren perform as Wilmington Wildcats.  From 1969 to the present day, Pat and Sonny could be found watching football, hockey, soccer, baseball, lacrosse, basketball and field hockey at the youth, high school and college levels; Sonny was always their biggest fan.

Sonny will be remembered by his family as a no-nonsense, hard-working, do-the-right-thing type of man who loved his wife and children very much. He was so proud of his sons who turned out to be hard working family men and nothing made him smile more than being with any of his thirteen grandchildren or five great-grandchildren. He truly loved each of them and was so proud of each of their accomplishments. Sonny will be greatly missed by his family and friends who loved him dearly.

Sonny was the beloved husband of Patricia A. (Cushing) Robarge, devoted father of Joseph Robarge, Jr. & wife Denise of Gilmanton, NH, John Robarge & wife Julie, Dennis Robarge & wife Laurie and Donald Robarge & wife Bette all of Wilmington and Timothy Robarge & Diane Martin of Wakefield.  Sonny was the loving grandfather of Jonathan & Amy, Jackie, Ashley, Danielle, Krystal, Michael, Nick, Hayley, Caroline, Seamus, Tommy, Christian, Meghan, and great-grandfather of Trey, Jarred, Ashley, Alyssa, and Kelsey.  Dear son of the late Albert and Gertrude (Codere) Robarge, brother of Richard Robarge & wife Julie of Lowell, Raymond Robarge of Florida, the late Dot Bergfors and Theresa Robarge.  Sonny is also survived by many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Tuesday, November 29th from 2:00-6:30 p.m. immediately followed by a Service at 6:30 p.m.  In lieu of flowers donations in Joseph’s name may be made to the Wilmington Senior Center, 15 School St., Wilmington, MA  01887.

Paul A. Butler

Paul A. Butler, age 49, of Billerica, passed away on November 26, 2016. 

Paul is the devoted father of Debbie Athey & her husband Matthew of West Virginia, loving grandfather of Haley, Noah, Regan and Lucas, cherished son of Gail (Wilson) Smith & her husband, the late Robert Smith of Billerica and the late Donald P. Butler & his wife Paula Butler of Andover, dear brother of John Butler of Billerica, Julie Sullivan & her husband Joseph of Methuen, Lee Butler & his wife Lisa of Lowell, Robert Gagne & his wife Linda of Billerica, Lynne Gagne of Andover, Cheryl Dissottle of New York, Robert Smith of Wilmington, Scott Smith & his wife Christine of Hudson, NH, the late Donnie Butler, David Gagne and Christopher Gagne.  Paul is also survived by a large extended family of nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. 

Paul was an avid sports fan.

Therese Marie Anderson

Therese Marie (Leverone) Anderson, age 87, of Wilmington, passed away on November 27, 2016.

Therese is the wife of the late George A. Anderson, mother of George A. Anderson, Jr. & his wife Gail of Hardwick, Brian D. Anderson & his wife Cilla and Susan Welch all of Wilmington and the late David Anderson, grandmother of George Anderson, III, Christine Fauteux, Meredith Welch, Laurene Lefebvre and Brian Anderson, Jr., great-grandmother of Duncan, Braden, Quinlan, Finian, Elena and Nathan.

Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Mass at St. Thomas Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, MA on Thursday, December 1st at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.

Forrest G. Downs

Forrest G. Downs, fondly known as “Brownie” or “Ned” to his family and friends, age 88, of Wilmington, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on November 26, 2016.

Forrest was born on August 28, 1928, in Wakefield, MA; he was the dear son of the late Glenn and Phoebe Downs. Forrest was raised in a large family; he moved to Wilmington when he was a young boy when his family bought the Pettingill Dairy Farm at Perry’s Corner in Wilmington. Forrest was raised and educated in Wilmington; as a youngster, Forrest, along with his brothers and sisters learned how to work hard around the farm, take care of the animals, and milk the cows; they did everything as a family.

Forrest went on to serve in the U. S. Army Reserves before being inducted into active duty on January 24, 1951 during the Korean Conflict. Forrest served as a Sergeant with the 70th Engineer Combat Battalion and was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal for his service during the occupation of Germany. In January of 1953, after being honorably discharged from active duty, Forrest was transferred to the Army Ready Reserve and returned home to his family in Wilmington.

On June 6, 1951, Forrest married his “sweetheart” Helen Mae Ellsworth; the couple raised five wonderful children and shared more than 63 years together before Helen’s passing in October of 2014. Forrest loved being a dad; he was involved in the kids lives and they have many fond memories of their dad teaching them how to ice skate and play sports. As a “Papa” to his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren he couldn’t be beat; Forrest spent countless hours on the side lines of every sporting event that those kids played, he was always cheering them on and giving them encouragement. Forrest Loved his family unconditionally and was always so proud of them.

Forrest was a hard worker and for over 38 years he dedicated himself to the Wilmington highway department. Forrest was an easy going guy, a wonderful co-worker, and a great friend to many. At the time of his retirement, Forrest had worked his way up to Assistant Superintendent but everyone knew he just loved working in his front end loader.

In his spare time, Forrest enjoyed playing card games such as cribbage and kings in the corner. Forrest was also a Boston sports fan who enjoyed watching hockey and the Red Sox with his daughter Cindy. In his younger years Forrest was an avid bowler who was so good that he even tried out for a spot on television.

Robert J. Smith

Robert J. Smith – Born in Winchester, MA and raised in Wilmington, MA. He was the loving son of Robert and Josephine (Hardy) Smith, who predeceased him. Robert graduated from Wilmington High School in 1965, and earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Providence College, and a Master’s Degree from Boston College, all with honors. He also earned his certifications in Programming from Honeywell Institute and in Project Management from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He was married to Trudy (Montuori) in March, 1970, and has one son, Kevin, and two grandchildren, Skyler and Chandler Smith, of Saugus, MA.

Following college, Robert worked for 26 years for New England Telephone, now Verizon, as a manager with varied assignments in Computer/Technical Support, Project Management and Human Resources responsible for college recruiting. He taught recruiting techniques to other Bell subsidiaries throughout the country. His final assignment took him to New York where he was responsible for a large scale consolidation project.

In 1997, Robert opted for early retirement from New England Telephone and joined First Data Corporation as Director of Operations, in Daytona Beach, FL. He was responsible for the innovative start-up project, which included overseeing construction and eventual staffing and training of personnel to service all Sprint customers for directory assistance.

Robert completed his professional career as Director-Nielsen Media Research, overseeing approximately 2200 employees in Dunedin and Oldsmar, FL, and in Kentucky. He retired from Nielsen in 2008.

Robert inspired all who knew him. He never stopped learning and was a student of history, literature, politics, and most especially classical music, from its origins in early church music to present day composers. He loved sailing in Ipswich, Rockport, and Gloucester during summers. He was an avid traveler, and with Trudy, visited many Caribbean countries and Bermuda. Their last most memorable trip was to Ireland.

Most importantly, Robert was loved and admired by all who knew him. He was a wonderful husband of 46 years, a great father to his son, Kevin, and a loving grandfather to Skyler and Chandler. He delighted in taking them to Disney World, the Kennedy Space Center, museums and aquariums, and to Nascar races in Daytona Beach. He loved watching them play baseball, both in Florida and Massachusetts. Bob was a dear brother to Elizabeth “Betty” Ozolins and her husband Armins of Essex, MA. He is also survived by his brother-in-law William Montuori and daughter-in-law Michelle Smith. He will be sadly missed by all whose lives he touched.

Kevin Carney, age 68, of Waterbury, CT formerly of Wilmington, MA died unexpectedly at home on December 4, 2016.

Kevin was the beloved husband of Jane C. (Fiume) Carney, devoted father of Melissa Luedke and her husband Ben and Chris Carney, step-father of Raymond LaVallee, Jr., loving grandfather of Caleb and Alexa Luedke. Dear son of the late Robert and Irene (Wesoja) Carney, brother of Walter Carney and his wife Elaine and Bob Carney and his wife Carol. Kevin is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA on Friday, December 9th for Visitation from 10:30-11:30 a.m. immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 11:30 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Wilton, NH.

Janet P. Coulouris

Janet P. Coulouris (Bakey), age 61, of Wilmington, died unexpectedly at home on December 7, 2016.

Janet was born on July 16, 1955 in Medford, MA; she was the cherished only child of James J. and Ethel L. (Lyons) Bakey. Janet was raised and educated in Somerville, MA and a graduate of Somerville High School with the Class of 1973. Janet went on to further her education earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in early childhood education from Boston State College.

Prior to retiring, Janet, was employed as a Manager for Verizon for many years.

Janet and her husband Charlie along with their daughter Jamie, moved to Wilmington more than 28 years ago; she was a wonderful neighbor and a loyal friend to many. Janet was very involved with the Wilmington Educational Foundation (WEF) and We’re One Wilmington (WOW) where she served as treasurer. Janet was always a “go to” person when you needed something done; she was more than willing to volunteer her time and talents whenever and wherever needed. Janet’s selfless acts of kindness helped many people in the community throughout the years.

Janet was also a member of the White Island Shores Community Association. She loved her “Cape Cod Community” as well. Janet had many fond memories of spending time with her parents on Cape Cod every summer and she continued enjoying Wareham throughout her adult years. Janet loved the beach and all her friends from White Island.

Janet will be remembered for her love of sports, the Red Sox and Celtics equally but she also enjoyed a good game of football and an occasional game of hockey. She was an avid reader and had a fondness for animals.

Janet’s greatest joy was being a mother to her daughter Jamie; her unconditional love and support for her daughter was evident in everything she did. When Janet became a grandmother or “MA” as she was known to Jaydyn and Mia, her life was complete. Janet cherished her grandchildren with all of her heart, she enjoyed spending time with them, watching them grow and develop into wonderful little people and she lovingly spoiled them as only a grandmother can do.

Janet’s was quite a lady, smart, with a wicked sense of humor, and always willing to help others in need. She was loyal and kind to everyone she met and she will forever be missed by those whose hearts she touched.

Janet was the wife of Charles W. Coulouris, Jr., devoted mother of Jamie Marie Coulouris & her fiancé Michael Harris of Wilmington, loving “Ma” of Jaydyn and Mia, cherished daughter of the late James and Ethel (Lyons) Bakey. Janet is also survived by her beloved cousin Dorothy Schnetzer and her son Gary, as well as several cousins and many dear friends.

Family & friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Saturday, December 17th for Visitation from 10:00 – 11:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington at 12:00 noon.

Leonard J. Chase

Leonard J. Chase “Lenny”, age 74, of Wilmington, died unexpectedly on December 17, 2016, at the Winchester Hospital.

Lenny was born on January 15, 1942 in Melrose, MA; he was the cherished son of the late Clarence and Ella Chase. Lenny grew up in Malden and attended Malden Public Schools.

Lenny enlisted in the United States Coast Guard during the Vietnam War and began active duty service on March 10, 1959. Following a tour of duty overseas, Lenny returned to the United States and was honorably discharged from active service on March 8, 1963; he was transferred to the U. S. Coast Guard Reserves and continued to serve the country until 1965.

Lenny married the “love of his life” and his best friend Rose Polvere on June 15, 1963. The couple moved to Wilmington in 1967 where they made a wonderful home. Lenny and Rose loved to entertain their family and friends, they had an open-door policy and all were welcomed into their home.

At the time of his death, Lenny was employed as a Supervisor for the Dept. of Public Safety Elevator Division Local 888 and was an elevator inspector for the State of Massachusetts. Lenny was also a retired member of the IUEC Local #4 in Boston. Lenny’s vast knowledge of the elevator industry, his hard work ethic, and his personality made him a favorite among his co-workers.

Lenny was also quite an entrepreneur; he had several business ventures of his own including “Sir Lines A Lot” his parking lot striping business. Lenny employed many young folks throughout the years; he was always willing to help someone out and give them a hand getting on their feet.

In his spare time, Lenny enjoyed traveling with Rose, going to Foxwoods, Mohegan, and their yearly trips to Las Vegas. Lenny and Rose were preparing for retirement and bought an RV; they were looking forward to traveling across the United States, seeing new places, and meeting new people. Lenny was a “Big” Patriots fan; he looked forward to watching his home team win.

Lenny was best known for his sense of humor and he loved to make people laugh. Lenny always enjoyed telling a good joke and getting away with a good prank; he had an endearing and charismatic personality and people were drawn to him. Lenny made friends wherever he went, he made everyone feel welcomed and loved.

Lenny will be fondly remembered for his unconditional love and devotion to his family, extended family, and his many friends. He was truly “one of a kind” and will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him.

Lenny was the beloved husband of Rose M. (Polvere) Chase. Cherished son of the late Clarence and Ella (Bates) Chase, dear brother of Carol Rooney & her husband Richard of Davenport, FL, the late Merton Chase, Russell Chase, and Roberta Crowton. Step-brother of James & Gloria Coyne of Everett. Brother-in-law of Arthur Crowton of Davenport, FL. Lenny is also survived by many special cousins, nieces and nephews.

Edward P. Morris, Jr.

Edward P. Morris, Jr., known as “Paul” to his family and friends, age 65, of Wilmington, died September 2, 2016, at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston.

Paul was born on October 27, 1950; he was the dear son of the late Edward P. and Barbara D. (Desautell) Morris. Paul grew up in Wilmington and was a graduate of Wilmington High School.

Following graduation, Paul, enlisted in the U. S. Navy in November of 1969 during the Vietnam War. Paul trained at the Hospital Corps. School in Great Lakes, IL as well as the Field Medical Service School in Camp Lejeune, NC; he served at a Medical Service Tech during his active duty. Paul was honorably discharged on August 29, 1973 and returned home to his family in Wilmington.

For many years, Paul worked as a Computer Tech for various hospitals throughout the State before his illness forced him to retire.

Paul was the dear brother of Carol Ann Morris of Wilmington and the late Thomas Morris. He is survived by his loving nephew & niece, Riley Morris and Meghan Morris both of Keene, NH. Paul is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Graveside Services with Military Honors will take place in the Veterans Section of Wildwood Cemetery, 233 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington on Tuesday, December 27th at 2:00 p.m.. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Nichols Funeral Home, Wilmington.

Francesco J. Valente “Frank”, age 87, of Wilmington, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on December 21, 2016.

Frank was the beloved husband of Jeannette A. (Morreo) Valente, devoted father of Francis “Frank” Valente & wife Cheryl of Salem, NH, Alexander Valente & wife Gemma of North Reading, Linda Catalano & husband Stephen of Epsom, NH, Daniel Valente & wife Susan of Tewksbury, Pamela Valente of Kensington, NH, Michael Valente of Atkinson, NH, and Charlie Valente & wife Michele of Wilmington. Loving grandfather of 24 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Cherished son of the late Alessandro and Elizabeth (Angelosanto) Valente, dear brother of Madaline LaVine of Wilmington, the late Ann Storella, Marie Zuccola, Jeanette Raetano, Joseph Valente, and Alexander Valente. Frank is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Frederick A. Melvin, Jr.

Frederick (Sonny) Andrew Melvin, Jr. of Brooksville, FL died on Tuesday, December 20, 2016.

He was 85. He was born on August 30, 1931.

In 1951, he married Margaret (Peg) Duggan and together they had 4 children, 10 grand children, and 5 great-grandchildren.

As a youth, Fred served in the US Merchant Marine where he traveled around the world as a Seaman until he joined the US Army to serve his country in the Korean Conflict.

After his service, he worked as a truck driver for Capital Motors and for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

He raised his family in Tewksbury MA. He later moved to Venice, FL, where he was a school custodian from which and retired with his wife to their current home in Brooksville, FL.

Fred loved family and his country very deeply. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife Margaret, daughter Kathy (Melvin) Boyle, and sons Frederick (Ted) Andrew Melvin III, Edward Melvin, and Kevin Melvin.

A Memorial Service organized by Nichols Funeral Home will be held at 187 Middlesex Ave, Wilmington, MA 01887. Visiting hours will be Thursday, December 29th from 2:30-6:30PM. A Funeral will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, December 30th at the Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington, MA.

Martin G. Kuchler

Martin G. Kuchler, fondly known as “Marty” to his family and friends, age 80, of Wilmington, died peacefully on December 25, 2016.

Marty was born in Stuttgart, Germany on September 19, 1936; he was the dear son of the late Albert and Hilda Kuchler. Marty was raised and educated in Germany and was trained as a Master Baker. He was also quite an athlete and played semi-pro soccer in Germany for several years.

In 1957 at the age of 21 he came to the United States to visit his Uncle who owned Lyndell’s Bakery in Somerville, MA; with his master baking skills he went to work helping his Uncle with the bakery. Marty’s original plan was to help his family with the bakery temporarily and then return to his hometown in Germany; but plans changed when he met Mary Theresa Lyons a beautiful young lady who worked at the bakery as well. Marty was smitten and Mary became the love of his life and his best friend for over 54 years.

Marty and Mary married on July 7, 1962; following the wedding they took a six week honeymoon to Germany and its surrounding countries. Marty and Mary moved to Wilmington in 1966 where they raised their family and made their home for more than 50 years.

Marty continued to work hard for his family; he worked at the bakery until 1967 and then took a position as a truck driver for the Public Buildings Department in the Town of Wilmington. Marty liked his new job and his co-workers; he was hard working, conscientious and was a great employee for the town for over 30 years.

For many years, Marty was an active member of the Tewksbury/Wilmington Lodge of Elks #2070, the Wilmington Knights of Columbus Fr. Croke Council #4982 and a 4th Degree member of Bishop Delaney Assembly #397. Throughout the years he volunteered countless hours with each organization; Marty gave of his time and talents for the many fundraisers that each organization ran and was always willing to help out in any way.

In his spare time, Marty liked to follow sports, especially football and soccer; he also enjoyed watching classic tv shows such as Barney Miller and Archie Bunker where he acquired quite a sense of humor. Marty liked to relax on his deck listening to the waterfall and enjoying his koi pond.

Throughout the years, Marty and Mary became quite the world travelers; they visited every State in the United States and every country around the world, whether by plane, cruise ship, or car. Marty and Mary loved seeing new places and meeting new people, they were very adventurous and were not afraid to try anything; they even took a hot air balloon across the Sahara desert while on a trip to Egypt.

Marty will be fondly remembered as a wonderful guy; he had a great sense of humor and was kind to everyone. Marty loved his family unconditionally and cherished his role as “Papa” to his grandchildren. Marty will be forever in the hearts of those he loved.

Marty was the beloved husband of 54 years to Mary T. (Lyons) Kuchler, devoted father of MaryBeth Smith & husband Scott, Kristine Johnston and Martin J. Kuchler all of Wilmington and Cheryl Corson of Tewksbury. Loving “Papa” of Jaclyn, Derek, & Shauna Smith, Danielle Williams & husband Nicholas, Shane & Evan Corson and Brittany Kuchler. Cherished son of the late Albert and Hilda Kuchler, dear brother of Dieter Kuchler of Germany He is also survived by his special cousin Martin Kuchler of Germany.
