George H. Twohig

George H. Twohig, age 74, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2018 at the Sawtelle Hospice House in Reading.

George was born in Cambridge after his parents had immigrated here from Nova Scotia. The family moved back to NS from their then-home in Lexington while George and his sister Midge were still young, but eventually returned and settled in Wilmington. George remained there in his family home most of his life.

After leaving the Air Force, George worked at Houghton Mifflin as a computer operator, and then in 1969, he accepted a position at Northeastern University where he remained as an IT Manager for 46 years until 2015.

Known for his sharp wit and one liners, inherited from his father George, he was the life of any party or gathering. He retained that humor even while under recent hospice care.

Full of rhythm, he loved most music, particularly early soul and disco. He went out dancing as often as he could and when not out, he could be found shadow dancing to his favorite tunes at home. George kept himself in good shape and always belonged to either the NU gym or the local one once he retired. He was not one to embrace free time or hobbies in his later years, so the gym, home, family, and friends occupied his free time.

George was a good person with a soft spot for animals. His children will always remember and chuckle about growing up chasing several run-away hamsters, guinea pigs, and newts around the house when they escaped. Their backyard was lined with rabbits, their offspring, and their Dad-made cages. He even rescued a wounded sea gull once. But they’ll mostly remember him always surrounded by the many breeds of dogs, his last and favorite being his toy poodle, Fifi.

George was the devoted father George K. Twohig & his wife Amanda of Manlius, NY, Shelly A. Hudson & her husband Stuart of Danvers, MA and Derek J. Twohig & his wife Lindsey of Elliott, ME. He was the loving “Grampy” of Annabelle, Evelyn, Benjamin, Shannon, Leighla and Lillian, cherished son of the late George B. and Alice J. (Harvey) Twohig, and dear brother of the late Marjorie “Midge” Mosher & her husband George. George is also survived by his former wife and close friend, Angela Twohig of Billerica, as well as former wife and mother to his children, Christine Twohig of West Newbury.

Family and friends will gather for Visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Friday, February 16th from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m.
