Robert M. Monteiro, fondly known as “Montey” to his family and friends, age 68, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on September 18, 2016.
Montey was born on July 27, 1948, in Lowell, MA; he was the dear son of the late Caetano and Maria “Connie” Monteiro. Montey grew up in Wilmington and attended Wilmington Public Elementary School; he then went on to complete his education at the Somerville Trade High School in Somerville, MA.
Montey was inducted into the United States Army on February 13, 1969; he was trained as a Radio TT Operator and sent overseas to serve the Country during the Vietnam War. Following his tour of duty and Honorable Discharge from active duty, Montey was transferred to the U. S. Army Reserves Eighth Army and finished his Reserve obligation in February of 1975.
After being discharged from Active Duty, Montey returned home to his family in Wilmington and married his high school sweetheart Judy Collins in February of 1974. Montey and Judy shared more than 42 years of marriage together, raised two wonderful sons Robert and Greg, settled in their hometown of Wilmington to be close to their family and friends, and had many great times throughout the years.
For many years Montey was employed as a Window Treatment Installer for the Designs and Blinds Company in Waltham. Montey was very meticulous at his job, he had a great work ethic, and good people skills with the customers; this all led to a very successful career throughout the years.
Montey was known to have a fascination with old cars; he especially loved his 1960 Corvette which was “his baby”. He was also an avid sports fan when it came to the Red Sox or the Patriots and he enjoyed watching the games with “his boys”.
Montey will be fondly remembered for his unconditional love for his family and friends; he was a very devoted husband to Judy, father to Rob and Greg, he was very pleased to have Adrienne as his daughter in law and just adored being “Vo Vo” to his granddaughters Dorothy, Isabella, and Juliana; they really brightened his world. Montey was known to be quiet and gentle but was also fun loving and spirited; he was truly a “great guy” who would do anything for anyone. Montey left a huge impression on this world and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Montey was the loving husband of Judith F. (Collins) Monteiro, proud father of Robert P. Monteiro & his wife Adrienne of Millis and Greg J. Monteiro of Wilmington, doting grandfather of Dorothy, Isabella & Juliana Monteiro, cherished son of the late Caetano Valente and Maria C. “Connie” (Abreu) Monteiro, dear brother of Benny Monteiro & his wife Karin of NH, the late Albert Moreira and Sally Peeples. Montey was also the brother-in-law of Estralina Moreira, Elizabeth & Bob Maher, Barbara & Frank McKinnon, Virginia Fyler, Dave & Roberta Collins, Dorothy Collins, Walter Collins, Sue & Bob Frongillo, the late Richie and Steve Collins, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Service at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Thursday, September 22nd at 11:00 a.m. Interment with Military Honors to follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting Hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 21st from 4:00 -8:00 p.m. Memorial donations in Robert’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701
