Ronald J. Sweeney, age 64, of Pepperell, MA passed away unexpectedly, peacefully in his sleep, at his home on August 14, 2016.
Ronald was born in Arlington on August 20, 1951 and spent his early years in Lexington. The family moved to 409 Woburn St. in Wilmington where he and John Bruno had the best childhood imaginable and where the family made their life-long homestead.
Ronald was the beloved husband of 30 years to the late Linda Sweeney (Skinner).
Ronald began his career as a union tradesman at Manganaro Bros. Construction with his father. He later went on to became “King of the Road” driving 18 wheelers as a career, which was his passion and he loved it. Ronald ended with Somerville Lumber, where he was injured on the job and permanently disabled.
Ronald loved classic cars and motorcycles, his favorites being Ford or Harley Davidson.
Ronald was a devoted father of two, leaving behind a son, Richard Sweeney & his wife of Laconia, NH, and a daughter, Karen Durocher & her husband Shawn of Tilton, NH. He was the loving “Grandpa” of Cody Smart, Kaitlyn Smart, Regan Durocher, Kelsea Smart, Courtney Smart, Chloe Smart, Cameron Smart, cherished son of the late Joseph H. Sweeney and Dorothy (Sampson) Sweeney. He was the dear brother of Carolyn McDonough & her husband William of Franklin and Joanne Allen & her husband the late Bruce Allen of Bailey Island, ME. Ronald is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, as well as his life-long friends, John Bruno and J.C. Graham, Jack Bergland and “Digger”.
Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Saturday, August 20th at 11:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, at 12:00 noon. Visiting hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday, August 19th from 4:00-8:00 p.m.

Ronald was a proud United States Army Veteran.
