John F. Fahey, Sr., age 77 (44), of Wilmington, formerly of Somerville, died peacefully at the Massachusetts General Hospital on April 18, 2016, with his loving family at his side.
John was born in Boston, MA on July 11, 1938; he was raised and educated in Somerville and a graduate of Somerville High School. Throughout the years John went on to further his education by taking courses at MIT and Harvard University. He was self-employed as a machinist for many years.
John married his “best friend” Annette Buonomo on June 17, 1956; the couple moved to Wilmington in 1962 where they raised three wonderful children Deborah, John Jr. and Susan. John loved his family unconditionally and they had many great times throughout the years. John especially cherished his role as “Papa” and treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren. John attended countless school and sporting events for his grandchildren, he enjoyed playing board games with them for hours; he was always so proud of their accomplishments.
John was known to be an avid fisherman and hunter in his day and liked to play a friendly game of racquetball every now and then. He was a member of the Tewksbury/Wilmington Lodge of Elks and a former member of the Sons of Italy.
John will be fondly remembered as a good guy, hardworking, and friendly; he was helpful and would do anything for anyone. John will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
John was the beloved husband of Annette J. (Buonomo) Fahey, devoted father of Deborah L. Duggan & husband Thomas, Jr., John F. Fahey, Jr. & wife April all of Wilmington, and Susan M. Ganley & husband Robert of Burlington. Loving “Papa” of Thomas III & Nicholas Duggan, Shawn, Zachary, & Amy Fahey, Robert Jr., Michael, Kenneth, & Gina Ganley, and Dianna Fahey, great-granddaughter Fiona Duggan and her sister Lily. Dear son of the late Leo and Mildred (Barber) Fahey, brother of Robert Fahey and Eileen Fahey both of Billerica, Joseph Fahey and Francis Fahey both of Somerville, the late Leo, William, and Edward Fahey, and Marie Walsh. John was the special uncle of Daniel Fahey & wife Marie of Abington and is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Service on Saturday, April 23rd at 10:30 a.m. at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave (Rte. 62) Wilmington.
